BIO, BIFL: rain boots

For the most part, people choose “rain boots” with function over fashion in mind. Why not have both? Especially rain boots for women. Women like fashion right?

Many people keep a pair of rain boots in their car beside having a pair handy at home. Wet weather often means muddy weather and wet, muddy feet are the last things we need upon arrival to a meeting or a birthday party.

How to choose a rain boot

First, check that the sole design is good enough. On wet pavement, you want a smoother texture with a little grip to it and non-slip material. For muddier strolls across a field or for hiking choose a sole with plenty of tread and softer material that will minimize sliding around your pathway.

The weight of the boot can be important when being used for hiking or for use for hours during the day. Realtors, architects and the like often wear boots for hours a day and a lightweight design is paramount.

The height of the boot should be considered. For strolling on wet pavement for an hour then you only need an ankle high design. For deeper puddles and for more rugged, muddier conditions then a calf high design is better. Or you can go all out and find knee high wellingtons, as they call them in England, goloshes in the USA. many men and women find these knee-high to be both fashionable and very serviceable.

Rain boots are absolutely in the category of Buy it Once and Buy it for Life. Choosing the right design with the right materials and workmanship will give you decades of use from this single purchase of a men’s rain boot or ladies rainboot. Children’s rain boots have the same opportunity but obviously, these would be hand-me-downs to other children.

Last but not least consider the lining. How thick is it, will it keep your feet both warm and dry? Remember that most of my selections for you here are only “water resistant”. True waterproof boots are few and far between so please choose wisely.

For my money, I bought the Sperry Topsider for women… a good all-around shoe/boot for dry and wet weather, mud and a few inches of snow. Love these boots. My husband also has a pair of Sperry Topsiders, the quality and comfort works for us both.

The selection of boots in this article has been chosen from both personal experiences and from reading hundreds of reviews on Amazon. I have narrowed down your choices so that you may find the perfect rain boot for your needs. Ordering from Amazon also supports our work here at Buy it Once, Buy it for Life and yes we get a small commission from items you purchase via our website. Thanks!
